There had been 2 white layers and 2 green until now. Occasional 4 egg days, but mostly 1 or 2 egg days.

I'm due to record daily for a couple of weeks.

Slaughtered two roosters on Feb 23 - Pozole the leghorn, and Coq au Vins the penciled buff. Pozole became stock and soup immediately, other is in freezer.

 

If I'm working soon I'll be making a chick order.

2+ brown layers (Rhode Island Red, possibly Barred Rock)

2 white layers (silver spangled Hamburg)

2 green layers (Americauna)

 

 December 27

 

Production started before the solstice - I collected 3 white eggs on December 20, and an egg every other day since then. On December 24 I collected first green egg; have been getting a white and a green since then.

I've collected 8 white eggs and 3 green eggs so far. My guess is December 17 for first one.

The pre-Solstice production was quite a surprise. I should get back to recording production. I suspect the other white layer and the other green layers will be coming on early in 2025.

Depending on my travel in 2025 I may get chicks. Flock will be 5 years old or more this summer,  getting 3 kinds of brown layers (5 total), 2 white layers, and 2 green layers, plus meat birds to get to minimum shipment.

2 roosters will be slaughtered this spring if it looks like I am doing a chick order.

I should build a new (redwood) coop with automatic door before any order.

 Production has been pretty good - 4-6 eggs a day.

Lost the Rhode Island Red hen today to a skunk. I hope this is a one off, it was strange in that it happened during daylight hours.

Thinking about a chick order for May 20.

3 white layers: W.C. Black Polish, White Leghorn, Star Spangled Hamburg
5 brown: Buff Orpington, 2 Rhode Island Red, 2 Barred Rock
2 green: Americauna

and 5 meat birds (orders with less than 15 chicks have a $35 surcharge for the heat pack needed - so the meat birds are essentially free, as well as two of the layers).
