One of the Barred Rock hens didn't roost in the coop last night. She had escaped the yard during the day. A predator got her during the night.
Flock:
Ancona
Rhode Island Red
Americauna (may be a rooster)
October hatch
Columbian Wyandotte rooster (will be eaten soon)
3 Rhode Island Red
2 Americauna
4 Barred Rock
11 layers... 8 brown, 2 green, 1 white
Flock can be increased. Minimum order of chicks is 15. I'm thinking 2 Americauna, 3 Buff Orpingtons, 10 meat birds.
That would put laying flock at end of year:
1 white layer (1+ years)
11 brown layers (8 1+, 3 pullets)
4 green layers (2 1+, 2 pullets)
If I get pullets from June 2 hatching they'd be laying during the solstice lull for the 1+ year olds.
